Our cottage was once a workshop for a local craft builder, and it shows! A high arched ceiling gives the feel of a larger open space, and the bathroom features grouted natural riverstone and a stone vanity sink. The style is rustic with Indonesian and Mexican folkloric influences. A full kitchen with a dishwasher displays the creative use of space with live edge shelving and purple heart trim. An abundance of storage space provides plenty of area to put away your belongings before you step out to explore the area. Alternately, you could just stay inside. With radiant floor heating and an electric fireplace, the cottage is the perfect place to get cozy and watch a movie via one of the internet entertainment platforms available to guests.
A quarter mile away is Kah Tai Lagoon, named after the S'Klallam village that was here prior to the American take over of the region. It has nice trails for bird watching. A little further down road is the half a century old Port Townsend Food Co-op, Pourhouse Taproom, Propolis Brewing, Blue Moose Cafe, and Sunrise Coffee Co. If you continue on for a mile or so, you'll arrive in the historic downtown district of Port Townsend. With beautiful Victorian architecture preserved since the 19th Century, you'll have an amazing experience going door-to-door through the many boutique shops, art galleries, eating at the fine local restaurants, or viewing a movie at the celebrated art house Rose Theater.
Alternately, you might like taking a walk to the Uptown District. There, you'll find Aldrich's Market (the oldest grocery store in the state), Pan D'Amore Bakery, and other fine stores and restaurants. Every Saturday between April and December, part of Uptown's streets are closed for the famed Jefferson County Farmer's Market (consistently rated as one of the best in the state!) where local farmer's and crafts people sell a variety of high quality and unique products.
For a town our size, you'll find a variety of things to do each week with festivals happening year round. Some of the annual events include the Acoustic Blues Festival, Jazz Festival, Kinetic Sculpture Race, Wooden Boat Festival, StrangeBrew Fest, Port Townsend Film Festival, The Thing,Local Arts & Crafts Fair, Victorian Holidays, and monthly Art Walks.
Of course, being the wooden boat capital of the Western Hemisphere and being surrounded by the sea, there are plenty of activities for those that love the water. There are also easy nature walks in Fort Worden or nearby Fort Flagler, and the Olympic National Park can be accessed less than a hour away.
