The space
The master bedroom hosts a queen size memory foam bed and a love seat that folds out into a twin bed if needed. Master bathroom is fully tiled and the shower only requires one small step to walk in. French doors lead from the bedroom to the large screen porch. Blinds and light blocking curtains are on all windows, and you cannot hear the roosters or other noises, from inside the house, so you sleep as late as you like. The 2nd bedroom has a full and twin bed, both memory foam. Light blocking blinds on the windows and full closet to hang clothes and store suitcases. The den has sectional sofa that makes a nice full bed using the ottoman. You can also separate the ottoman for extra seating in the adjoining living room. The living area just makes you relax and say ahh. Comfortable seating with views out the French doors to the back porch or watch TV from the wall mounted Fire TV. The dining room table easily seats 6 people and there are table extensions available if needed. The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware and utensils to prepare a full family meal. Stockpot for steaming shrimp or clams. Seafood utensils including oyster shucking knife and crab claw crackers are available. Basic spices and olive oil are also available along with coffee and basic condiments and paper goods. Appliances: Coffee pot, microwave, toaster oven, flat top stove and conventual oven, dishwasher, electric hand mixer, and blender. The laundry room with stackable washer and dryer is located off the kitchen and the 2nd bathroom with a shower and tub is located off the laundry room. French doors lead from the living area out to screen porch and on cool days it is wonderful to open these doors and feel the ocean breezes coming through. Dog beds, pick up bags, toys and dog towels are available for your dogs use. "The Pearl is painted in calming colors and just exudes warmth and comfort to all who walk through the doors.
Guest access
"The Pearl" sits on 1/2 acre of land with a fully fenced back yard (privacy fence on side with neighbors, privacy screened chain link on other 2 sides) It has a pole barn for parking boats or cars in the back and 2-3 parking spaces in front. Walking distance to the downtown shops and restaurants and a public park with tennis courts and playground is half a block out the back gate. Public boat ramp is less than 1/2 mile from The Pearl. The public beach is less than 5 miles away and is a maximum 8 minute drive.
The neighborhood is quiet with only the sound of crowing roosters and children playing. "The Pearl" is located in a residential fishing neighborhood so you will see boats and other fishing and hunting equipment in some of the yards. This is old Florida living. No two houses look alike and trailers share the same street as historic homes. This is a quiet neighborhood and the roosters are the loudest residents, which you cannot hear from inside the house. Bicycle, kayaks, paddle board, and boat rentals are all available in downtown Carrabelle as well as charter boat rentals.
Dog Island is short distance by boat and trips can be arranged to spend the day shelling, crabbing or fishing on the sparsely populated barrier island.
Apalachicola and St George Island are about 30 minute drives and offer more shops, dining and sightseeing with St. George offering beautiful dog friendly beaches and a state park.
Other things to note
Carrabelle is the entryway to The Forgotten Coast. There are no traffic lights or fast food restaurants. There is one grocery store and a wonderful seafood market along with the local restaurants ranging from BBQ to Korean food and of course fresh seafood. Food truck eating is at its finest all along The Forgotten Coast. If you are looking for 'Old Florida" without all the artificial glitz of the tourist beaches this is the place for you.
Carrabelle is surrounded by National forest which make for great hiking, birding and hunting. It also means that wildlife is abundant and sometimes makes it way into the neighborhood. You will see and hear hawks, owls and other birds of prey. Deer, foxes and raccoons and white pelicans are often spotted. The forest also host black bears which we strive to live with peacefully. It is important not to leave food or garbage outside of a secured bin, and never leave your dog or small children unattended, even in the fenced yard. There has been very few bear attacks in this area and we would like to keep it that way. There is literature in the cottage about living with black bears. Please read it and follow the guidelines. I love seeing the bears and have never had a problem with them.
